Rihanna's New Single Criticized for Killing a Man!

The song "Man Down" is Rihanna's 5th International single taken from her 5th studio album LOUD. The song was written by Timothy & Theron Thomas, Shontelle Layne and Shama "Sham" Joseph. The single was picked when Rihanna sent a Twitter message asking fans to choose between "Cheers (Drink to That", "Man Down", "California King Bed or "Fading". The music video was filmed in Jamaica in April 2011 and directed by Anthony Mandler who is working with Rihanna on most of her videos. The video starts off when Rihanna shoots a man at a busy train station. This is boils down to the man raping her a day earlier when she came out of a nightclub. The man appeared to have sexually assault her and the singer runs back home grabbing a gun she has in a dresser. The overall critics have been positive but with it comes the negative as well. The Parents Television Council (PTC), is a non-profit organization which is always seeking responsible entertainment, stated that it should not be aired on television. They criticized the singer as "cold, calculated execution of murder" in the video and that it suggest that killing a rapist is the proper form of justice (wikipedia.com).

Whatever the controversy may be, "Man Down" is one of the top best songs today. It has made it to the "Canandian Hot 100" in number 63, France as #5, South Korea as #54, Switzerland as #41, UK R&B as #15, UK Singles as #54, US Billboards Hot 100 as #59, and US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs as #10! Not bad for a song heavily criticized for trying to make CHRIS BROWN according to fans across the world, look as the woman beater and RIHANNA as the victim. This is a touchy subject that will always keep rising when an issue about an abusive relationship is brought up from either RIHANNA'S or CHRIS' side.

RIHANA:
"Man Down is gangsta. It comes from me trying to achieve that [vibe]," Rihanna told about the saucy song. "I'm super inspired by reggae music and it has been a part of me since I was born, and I grew up listening to it. I grew up loving it. My favorite artists are all reggae artists. The special thing in that song is the fact that it's a female singing those lyrics, then you have that reggae thing and the chant; the overall energy in that song is so gangsta." She added later "It's got a lot of swagger. I really enjoy it." (MTV News)
